Client (actually a friend who was running a non-profit, whom I was doing a favor for and working for free): "Can we have everything we talked about (a dynamic website, with a blog, shopping cart, news feeds, etc.) by Monday?" At this time, all we had was a rough sketch, she refused to give me much in the way of any content, other than telling me to "pull it from ___" (emails, brochures or the badly misspelled business plan - only the business plan was in digital form). This was on Thursday evening, just as I was leaving. She conceded that I didn't have to make the wheel of the bicycle move by Monday.

After she remained uncommunicative for most of the weekend (after I sent her a request for more content), I set her up a skeletal site on the free plan offered by the domain name service provider and turned everything back over to her. I was done! Previously, I was acting as her company secretary (doing in-house tracking forms), provided a server and web hosting and was struggling to get adequate input from her to design her website. I felt I was being um... taken advantage of, with little thanks. It didn't get better when she kept micromanaging me on everything I did - even insisting that she "felt much better" when I dogeared a page in my notebook for some notes I was taking on her project (when the notebook was devoted to her project in the first place) so I wouldn't lose the page. This is the sort of person who would like to manage your every mouse click and physical movement and if you object or try to explain that there is a better way of doing things, she claims that you "just like conflict" or that you "don't like to be questioned on anything". (In other words, she quickly resorts to insults and put-downs). Not worth it! Not even for the "experience". I doubt we're still friends either!

I still have to laugh though at "everything except for the moving bicycle"
(in three days time, over a weekend, when I already had other plans - and all we had so far as a rough sketch and almost no real content - other than vague hints.)

Can you move the logo 2 pixels to the right please?
OK, that looks good but can you move it 1 more pixel to the right?
Oh I think I liked it where it was...

Repeat for every possible location and measure throughout the site...
After a couple of weeks of this, I fired the client.

I designed a page for a vet and the colours were grey/white + a little red.
She said "Could you change everything to green?"
"I could, but..it wouldn't look good."
"Please, I really want it to be green."
"..okay, so like a pale green?"
"No, make it really bright, like grass!"
"...but..it won't look good..."
"At least let me see it!"

I changed the colours to green.

Client "That doesn't look good.."

red-hot scrolling bars is what drives traffic and people who have red hot scrolling bars get more scroll. lol

umm this was suggested by one of my know it all clients- he also debated that my site should be completely visible within the fold and no one should have to scroll down on my site to see my services.

This same client asked for a site that scrolls about 1200 pixels down screen which is a lot of scrolling for someone who is against the scroll and if the red hot scrolling idea is such a fad why isn't anyone using it again?

I was told today by a client that I make pretty sites but because those pretty sites don't look like one of those "infomercial sites" than they don't generate money.

he refereed to homestead the generic template site
I said not only is their site ugly but there templates are to, but he said well its 4.99 to start I said sweety nothing is 4.99 a month when it comes to web design.

I explained to him that a template made and used by the same people over and over again is not a comparison to my services, Ive had many clients from homestead which i refer to thim as the home rip off because clients get a site that my 5 year old could have designed better with yahoos page builder. but you live and learn.

I'm about to send this client packing to homestead if he doesn't shape up. He will then appreciate a good designer. Sometimes it takes getting screwed over before a client will realize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I was making a myspace business page for a woman from hell. She got mad when someone left a comment with a bikini clad model on it. They said in a heated email to me: The first thing that must go is all the promo flyer in the comment section .. specially anything with nudity and specially nude or nudish women I am so against sex selling ... i feel there is a time an place for every thing an it's not on or connected with any thing to do with me and my business ... so ALL of the promos must go and don't add or allow any with out my approval ... you can email it to my for approval befor adding.

and then she added...

FYI, change my body type to JUICY

I ditched her that same day. She still will not stop emailing me.

While in a meeting with an egotistical client, he couldn't resist on telling us how great and expensive his new PC was by the use of buzzwords:

Client: 'it's got RAM, it's got Hard Drive, it's got Graphics Cards, Motherboard'
Me: 'Fatherboard?'
Client: 'Two!'
